Levy and Construction Information

Big things are happening at the Norwalk Public Library, and we want our community to be part of what comes next. As we continue important restoration work, including the full renewal of our historic main staircase, we’re also looking ahead.

Levy Information:
On May 5, 2026, the Library will appear on the ballot with a levy that helps ensure we can maintain safe, accessible spaces and continue to expand and grow the services our patrons rely on every day.
Ballot language translated: Over a period of 30 years, property owners will pay $5/month per $100,000 of the county auditor appraised value as of 2026 and will not go up if property value increases.

Current Construction Work:

Masonry Repairs: Replacing damaged bricks and stone, repointing mortar joints, and repairing sandstone features.

Waterproofing & Sealant Upgrades: Installing new joint sealants and flashing to improve weather resistance.
Exterior Cleaning & Protection: Cleaning all brick and stone surfaces and applying a clear water-repellent sealer.

Window & Lintel Restoration: Repairing and painting wood window frames and steel lintels for improved durability and appearance.

Main Entry Stair Repair (To be completed in April 2026): Removing and resetting stair treads, replacing broken stairs, and sealing for durability.

These four important projects are made possible through a One-Time Strategic Community Investments Grant from the State of Ohio, which awarded the Library $400,000 to support restoration efforts on our historic Carnegie building. We’re grateful for this generous support, which helps ensure our library remains a vibrant and welcoming space for generations to come.
